Website for LPO Arkitekter
LPO Arkitekter's web solution ran on an outdated publishing system. Vasser helped secure a smooth transition to the more future-proof Craft CMS.
Upgrading the web solution to Craft CMS
The existing website ran a publishing system that was no longer actively developed. As surrounding technology evolves, such a system falls behind and runs into problems with, for example, PHP versions and security updates.
The existing solution also had limitations as the need arose for more creative expression – for example so-called «digital storytelling» or «scrollytelling».
«Digital storytelling» makes it possible, through specially adapted content modules, to build articles and project showcases in more creative ways than before.
To get there, we first had to deal with the outdated publishing solution.
Why Craft CMS
lpo.no previously used a publishing system called Perch CMS. It had unfortunately become inactive in recent years, and challenges were starting to show in usability, security and further development.
Our recommendation for the way forward was to change to Craft CMS.
We recommended it for several reasons:
- Craft CMS has very good, broad support among agencies and suppliers in Norway and worldwide.
- The team behind the product is very clear about its plans and focus for the road ahead.
- Craft CMS evolves at a steady pace with continuous improvements.
- Craft CMS focuses on areas we believe are right for today's market – including accessibility, security, scalability and page speed
- Craft CMS is very modular in its construction, and extremely flexible for the road ahead.
By choosing Craft CMS, LPO has many options for developing the solution further as needs, growth and goals evolve.
Results and lessons after the move to Craft CMS
Since the move to Craft CMS, the editing experience in the control panel is substantially improved, and page speed and structure are much more tidily organised.
Underneath, Craft CMS also offers GraphQL and the option of headless publishing down the road, so any future redesign is highly flexible in its choice of technology.
The road ahead with the new solution
Now that the new web solution is up and running, there is a lot of exciting work coming to lpo.no. Current work includes further improvements to page speed, search engine optimisation (SEO) and accessibility. All three are already at good levels, but we do not stop there. As a close partner of LPO we are always looking for improvements. Good web solutions need regular follow-up!
