Why Vasser uses few animations and effects

Compared with many other agencies, we use relatively few animations and effects in our projects. We believe in keeping the content in focus, and that effects and animations are very often noise.

At a time when widespread use of animation can seem like the norm, we hold firm to a more minimalist approach.

Why do we believe fewer effects provide more value for users and developers?

1. Focus on the user experience

The user experience should be at the centre. Unnecessary effects can often distract and even confuse the user.

By keeping it simple, we create an interface that is easy to navigate and gives users what they are looking for without distractions.

2. Faster load times

Effects and animations generally contribute to longer load times, and we know time is money, both for us and for our users.

By limiting the complexity of the code, we ensure faster website performance, which gives a better experience for everyone.

3. More room for content

Often, effects are used as a way to cover for a lack of content. We think that is the wrong approach.

By focusing on content and usability for as long as possible, at most a light seasoning of animation is needed in the final phase of development (if anything at all).

It can be hard to resist the temptation to add polish early in a project, but it usually gives a false impression of progress.

It is almost always better to spend more time and resources working on content, structure and usability than on effects.

4. Timeless design

Trends come and go, but simplicity lasts.

By sticking to traditional tools and technology, we focus on creating timeless design elements that are not only modern today, but just as appealing tomorrow.

It is an investment in the future.

5. Less maintenance

The more complex the code, the harder it is to maintain.

By avoiding unnecessary effects, we not only make our code easier to manage, but also reduce the risk of errors and complications over time.

Summary

In an industry where widespread use of animation seems to be the norm, we choose to stand firm with a simple approach.

It is not about rejecting progress, but about embracing what truly provides value.

At Vasser, simplicity in animation is a key to sustainable and user-friendly design.
